    MGMA Stat - value-based payment - May 2, 2017

The Medical Group Management Association’s MGMA Stat poll asked healthcare professionals to describe the sentiments of their organization’s physicians on the shift from fee-for-service payment toward a value-based payment model. Both government and commercial insurers are experimenting in changing how doctors are paid, wanting to move away from paying for the specific type and volume of procedures (fee-for-service) to a different payment methodology that also recognizes patient outcomes and cost (value-based payment). The MGMA Stat results show that only 11 percent of organizations felt their doctors had a positive opinion of the change, compared to 40 percent who described their doctors as having a negative view. Almost half (49%) stated their physicians were split about the change.

The poll was conducted on May 2, 2017 with 1089 total responses. Of this total, 82 indicated the question was not applicable to their situation with a net of 1007 applicable responses.

MGMA Stat is a national poll that addresses practice management topics, the impact of new legislation, and related topics. Participation is open to all healthcare professionals. Results of other polls and information on how to participate in MGMA Stat is available at: mgma.org/polls.
