Creating and maintaining a succession plan for all key leaders and providers within an organization is critical to the ongoing health and vitality of an organization. As the baby boomers near retirement, companies need to seriously consider who will continue to lead the organization into the future. The research and case study in this paper will help educate healthcare leaders on the importance of succession planning and the types of plans, provide tips to creating a plan, and discuss the pitfalls to not having a plan in place.
