This paper explores the risks and benefits of hiring a physician with a board action related to professional boundaries.  Physician recruitment is costly, but may pale in comparison to the impacts of failing to retain a quality practitioner.  This paper provides thought provoking information found through published article research, interviews, and personal experience.  Proper investigation, preparation, and integration of a physician with a board action into the practice could be a wise investment.  Ongoing concern of a physician with a professional boundaries accusation can be harder to predict, but none the less may have no relation to their clinical competency.  Recruiting physicians with a skill set for a rural setting can be challenging and those with a board action should not be hastily overlooked.  Recognizing the physicians attributes, the practice needs and the area resources is the best recipe for successful integration.
