The most precious commodity medical practice leaders have — at the top of the list with their physicians and staff — is time. It’s finite and always in demand. Without taking some of it for yourself, it’s entirely too easy to settle into a routine that inhibits your professional growth and the growth of your business.
I want to invite you to invest some of your time and break your routine by joining us in Boston later this month for our 2018 Annual Conference.
In planning this year’s event, the MGMA team has assembled the brightest minds and most engaging speakers who will more than deliver on the value of the time and money you invest in joining us in Boston.
MGMA has listened to its members and the industry at large to understand your biggest challenges, regardless of the size and specialty of your practice or your role, whether practice or hospital executive, physician or consultant. Now we’re ready to bring you the ideas and conversations that will help you transform healthcare and reach new heights in efficiency, profitability and opportunity.
As former MGMA Board Chair Debra Wiggs, FACMPE, wrote last year, there are certain pearls of wisdom you will find from our educational offerings: Affirmation of what you’re doing right, “lightbulb moments” of inspiration and the “kick-in-the-butt” ideas that send you home with the conviction to make changes. Our slate of educational offerings this year in Boston has all of this.
But so much of the value from Annual Conference happens outside the confines of education sessions:
People such as Ron Menaker, EdD, MBA, CPA, FACMPE, with the Mayo Clinic and Michael O’Connell, MHA, FACMPE, FACHE, demonstrate it by taking the time to ask attendees what they liked and disliked about their presentations, accepting feedback without being defensive — all in the name of advancing ideas as best they can.
Without taking the time to list the dozens of longtime MGMA members who, like Ron and Michael, are deeply committed to our industry and to advancing the profession, their presentation on the final day of last year’s Annual Conference underscores this esprit de corps.
Speakers and industry leaders such as Ron and Michael are passionate about what they do. In many cases, the conversations they initiate are just the beginning of something that extends beyond the conference and puts you on a new path in your career.
As Ron put it: “We are all one community.”
Finally, at each Annual Conference we recognize our many exceptional volunteers, the new class of ACMPE Fellows and the leaders who have served countless hours on the Board of Directors. In particular, we’ll join as a community to thank Yvette T. Doran, MBA, FACMPE, for her time as Board Chair. This transformational year for MGMA has been shaped in many ways by her service on the Board, and it will be an honor to play host to her passing of the torch to incoming Board Chair Todd D. Grages, MSBA, FACMPE, FACHE, whom you may recall from last month’s Message to Members.
All of us at MGMA look forward to welcoming you, the MGMA community, to again lay the foundation for immediate and lasting changes in your organizations and your careers.
We’ll see you in Boston.
